PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zhang Chunqiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Star Dust (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chunqiao comes to the cage accompanied by You Can't Be Friends With Everyone by MAKE OUT. Dust has chosen Die for Metal as his entrance music. Star Dust has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zhang Chunqiao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Star Dust!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chunqiao checks the leg kick.
Dust has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Dust takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Dust throws a jab but it's blocked by Chunqiao.
Chunqiao ducks under a wild hook from Dust.
Dust does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Chunqiao avoids the head kick by Dust.
Chunqiao throws out a loose jab but Dust uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dust misses with a looping left.
Chunqiao shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dust sprawls well. Dust wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Chunqiao gets slowly back to his feet.
Chunqiao jabs Dust to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Chunqiao closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dust did well to prevent Chunqiao getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dust makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dust.

Dust is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dust has his foot on Chunqiao's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chunqiao works his way back into a safe position though.
Chunqiao slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Dust stops Chunqiao from passing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dust is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dust is looking for a sweep. Chunqiao is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Chunqiao wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dust keeps working.
Chunqiao prevents Dust from improving his position.
Dust is pressing down on Chunqiao's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Dust is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've been hearing good reports from Chunqiao's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dust is taking a breather. Chunqiao says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Star Dust dominated that round.

Chunqiao tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dust defends well and Chunqiao ends up having to push Dust into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Chunqiao pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chunqiao tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Dust misses with a wild body shot.
Chunqiao connects with the punch.
Dust throws a leg kick which misses Chunqiao's front leg but catches the back leg as Chunqiao tries to avoid it.
Dust keeps the fight on the outside.
Chunqiao slips a straight right by Dust.
Chunqiao on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Dust lunges at Chunqiao with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Chunqiao's hand.
Dust swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Dust lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Zhang Chunqiao is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Dust connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Dust lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Chunqiao blocks a head kick by Dust.
Dust pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Jab, jab by Dust - just one landing.
Chunqiao tries to clinch there but Dust circles away.
Dust misses with a body kick.
Dust cracks Chunqiao with a right hand to the side of the head.

Chunqiao is rocked!
Chunqiao gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Dust points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Chunqiao wakes up just in time to hear Dust thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Star Dust!
After winning the bout, Star Dust thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
