Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mat Kowalak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shark Attack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shark Attack acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mat Kowalak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shark Attack!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Kowalak checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Attack throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A nice inside leg kick there by Attack. That's going to slow Kowalak down.
Kowalak looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Attack just misses with a punch to the body.
Attack throws a low kick, looking for Kowalak's leg but Kowalak calmly moves out of range.

Kowalak feints and as Attack raises his hands in defense, Kowalak changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kowalak drops back looking for a leg! Attack is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Attack manages to kick Kowalak off! Kowalak jumps back into Attack's guard.
Kowalak trying to control but Attack is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kowalak passes Attack's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kowalak content to control rather than advance.
Attack keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Kowalak is working for a kimura but Attack is defending it quite comfortably.
Kowalak prevents Attack from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kowalak is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Attack is just riding it out for now. Kowalak eventually gives up the hold.

Kowalak seems to be working for a kimura but Attack defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kowalak is pressing down on Attack's thigh, looking to free his foot. Attack is holding on for now.

Attack pushes Kowalak off and gets back to his feet.

Kowalak has managed to clinch.
Attack is trying to break the clinch but Kowalak has him pressed against the cage.

Attack escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kowalak takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kowalak. Attack does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kowalak tries to clinch up.
Attack throws a low kick, looking for Kowalak's leg but Kowalak calmly moves out of range.
Kowalak checks the leg kick nicely there.
Attack has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kowalak. Attack does a little dance to reset his feet.
Attack moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Mat Kowalak has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Attack misses with a low kick.
Attack chopping away at his opponent's legs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Attack looks to land a body kick but Kowalak moved away.
Kowalak takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shark Attack dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mat Kowalak's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Attack throws a shot from downtown. Kowalak moves away and avoids it.
Attack misses with a jab to the body
and Kowalak counters with a two punch combo.
Attack throws out a loose jab but Kowalak uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kowalak shoots in for a takedown but Attack shows good takedown defense.
Kowalak uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Attack.
Some bone on bone action there as Kowalak checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Attack throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Kowalak counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Kowalak stands up and waves to Attack to follow him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Attack throws a sloppy body shot

and Kowalak holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Attack pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Attack keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Attack is looking to land body kicks.
Good work by Kowalak as he checks the leg kick.
Attack throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kowalak.
Kowalak goes for a double leg but Attack avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Attack continues to drive forward.
Kowalak tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mat Kowalak. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Attack's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Attack lands with an overhand left.
Attack fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kowalak has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Kowalak with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Attack to score with a decent uppercut.
No joy there for Attack, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Attack tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kowalak was well out of range. Poor timing from Attack.
Attack pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kowalak is out of range and Attack settles back down.
Mat Kowalak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kowalak shoots in for a takedown but Attack shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Attack throws a solid leg kick but Kowalak takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Attack.
Attack does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Attack misses with a lunging right hand

and Kowalak decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Attack's guard.
Kowalak passes Attack's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kowalak is just content to waste time from the top position. Attack takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Attack is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kowalak is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kowalak trying to control the position from guard on top but Attack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Attack really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kowalak. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kowalak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Attack is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Kowalak presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Kowalak is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Attack to keep the fight standing.
Attack is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Attack breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A punch combination from Attack misses.
Kowalak moves out of range of the body kick.
Kowalak looks for a takedown but Attack sprawls well.
A big left from Attack misses.
Attack misses with the combination.
Good work by Kowalak as he checks the leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kowalak blocks the body kick.
Kowalak uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Attack.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mat Kowalak will probably get the nod.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Kowalak scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Kowalak is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Attack is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kowalak tries for a kimura but Attack is defending well.
Attack wants to get back to his feet but Kowalak drags him back down.

Kowalak decides to stand up, so the ref orders Attack to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kowalak walks into a left hand.
Jab from Attack.
Kowalak tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kowalak staying out of range there.
Shark Attack is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kowalak blocks a low kick nicely.
Kowalak misses with a two punch combination.
Kowalak closes the distance but Attack moves to the side
and Attack counters with a lovely shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Attack, right into the meat.
Kowalak throws a nice looking combination but Attack bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kowalak sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Attack chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Attack misses with an attempted mid kick.
Attack throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Attack throws a leg kick but Kowalak checks it.
Attack goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kowalak checks a low kick from Attack.
Attack swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Shark Attack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Attack throws a lazy uppercut

so Kowalak counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Attack utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kowalak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Attack swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kowalak drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Attack dives on top into guard.
Attack trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Attack accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Attack in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Attack must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Attack throwing strikes but missing.
Attack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Attack landing with the ground and pound.
Attack throws an elbow that misses. Kowalak uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Attack's guard. Nice move by Kowalak!
Kowalak passes Attack's left leg - he's now in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Attack is looking to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Shark Attack.
I think Attack has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
