PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dan Moroney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Elliott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jon Elliott was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Elliott!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Elliott gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Elliott is trying to control the action in half guard but Moroney is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Moroney's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Elliott is looking for submissions but instead, Moroney has regained full guard.
Moroney is trying to keep Elliott in close.

Elliott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Moroney swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Moroney utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Moroney looking to hit a scissor sweep but Elliott is one step ahead there.
Elliott tries to free his leg and advance position but Moroney is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Moroney closes the distance but Elliott moves to the side

and Elliott counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Moroney manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Elliott tries to hold on but Moroney pushes him away.

Elliott reaches up to try and control the position but Moroney seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Elliott rolls and tries to escape and now Moroney has his back!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Moroney is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Elliott is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Moroney knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Moroney is trying to control Elliott's posture but Elliott avoids it.

Elliott swings around for an armbar but Moroney sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Elliott's guard.

Moroney is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Elliott is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
