The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
CId Pollendina seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alvarez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Alvarez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Pollendina has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Alvarez is on him like a limpet, forcing Pollendina back against the cage.

Pollendina manages to break the clinch.
Pollendina shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Alvarez throws a shot from downtown. Pollendina moves away and avoids it.
Alvarez motions for Pollendina to come forward. Alvarez throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Pollendina shoots in looking for a takedown. Alvarez tries to sprawl out of it but Pollendina keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alvarez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pollendina is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Alvarez has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Pollendina is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Alvarez yanks on the arm and Pollendina is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Alvarez.
