The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oman shoots in and gets a takedown into Defoe's guard.
Defoe looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Defoe avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Defoe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Oman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Defoe is proving hard to escape from.
Oman looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Defoe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
It looks like Oman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Defoe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Oman pulls Defoe in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aaron Oman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Oman stuffs the takedown attempt from Defoe. Defoe gets slowly back to his feet.

Oman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Defoe's guard.
Oman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Oman is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Oman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Defoe pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Oman seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Oman wants to stand up but Defoe is controlling him.
Oman looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Defoe prevents Oman from getting back to his feet.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Aaron Oman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Oman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Oman closes the distance and clinches.

Oman darts in and clinches Defoe up against the cage.
Oman looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Defoe jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Oman walks away with a smile on his face. Defoe gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Oman drives through and clinches with Defoe against the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Oman is on top in guard.
Oman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Oman rushes Defoe and presses him up against the cage.

Defoe tries to pull guard but Oman holds him up against the cage and eventually Defoe drops back down to his feet.

Oman throws a nice head kick!

Rory Defoe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oman tries to clinch but Defoe moves out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Defoe has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Oman advances to mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Oman cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oman takes Defoe's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Defoe is in trouble.

Oman really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Defoe.

Oman throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Oman misses with punches from the back.
Defoe is trapped and Oman is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Oman has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Defoe's body.

Oman is landing with some decent strikes but Defoe is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Well Oman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
