PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Duddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Moxon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duddy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Dropkick Murphys - 'Loyal to No One'. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Duddy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Jonathan Moxon!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moxon stuffs the takedown attempt from Duddy. Duddy gets slowly back to his feet.
Moxon misses with a wild combination.
Moxon just misses with a punch to the body.
Decent striking displayed by Moxon there.
We've been hearing reports that Duddy has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Moxon lands with a nice body punch.
Moxon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Duddy moves away.
Duddy throws a leg kick but Moxon sees it coming and moves out of range.
Duddy lands with a cross.
Duddy throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Moxon looks to land a combination. Duddy sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Moxon has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Duddy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Moxon wants to control but Duddy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Duddy tries to move to mount but Moxon blocks the move with his legs.
Duddy is looking to take a break and control but Moxon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Moxon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Duddy off and has taken his back!
Moxon is trying to stick to Duddy's back but Duddy is turning into Moxon. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Moxon's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Duddy.

Moxon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Duddy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Moxon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Duddy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Duddy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Moxon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Duddy is pushing down on Moxon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Moxon is fighting to maintain full guard but Duddy has managed to sneak the leg through.

Duddy takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Duddy lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Moxon has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Moxon and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Duddy is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Moxon avoids a kick to the body.

Duddy feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Moxon's calf.

Jonathan Moxon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Duddy instigates a clinch.
Duddy will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Moxon up against the cage.

Moxon throws an elbow but it misses.
Duddy is trying to drag Moxon to the mat but Moxon just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Duddy stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Duddy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Duddy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Duddy tries to clinch but Moxon is having none of it.
Duddy feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Moxon's calf.
Duddy tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Moxon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Duddy takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Moxon looks to land a body kick but Duddy moved away.
Duddy throws a leg kick which misses Moxon's front leg but catches the back leg as Moxon tries to avoid it.
Duddy lands a head shot.
John Duddy is winning the standup battle so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Moxon wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Duddy misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Moxon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Duddy moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Moxon throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Duddy moves in looking to clinch but Moxon pushes him off.
A bone on bone clash there as Moxon blocks the leg kick.
Moxon misses with a wild body shot.
Duddy scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Moxon takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Moxon is breathing heavily.
Moxon connects with a body shot.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Duddy goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Duddy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Moxon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
John Duddy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Duddy, as that shot connected.
Duddy connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Moxon chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Duddy can pounce on him.
Duddy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Duddy scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Duddy dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Duddy looks to land a combination but Moxon avoids it well.

Duddy feints with a left and delivers a massive head kick! Moxon collapses like a ragdoll! Game over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). John Duddy!
John Duddy decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
