PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fred Kvant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abel Toushiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fred Kvant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Abel Toushiro!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kvant tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Toushiro defends well and Kvant ends up having to push Toushiro into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kvant misses with a knee to the head.
Kvant struggles to land a body shot inside as Toushiro controls his hands.
Kvant stalling in the clinch but Toushiro improves position.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Kvant obliges.
Toushiro can't break the clinch.
Kvant wants to get back to striking at distance but Toushiro won't allow it.

Kvant escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Toushiro keeps the fight on the outside.
A head kick misses from Kvant.
Kvant tries to clinch but Toushiro moves away

and Toushiro counters with a shoot takedown. Kvant fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Toushiro controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Toushiro accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kvant wants to sweep but no luck.
Kvant can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Toushiro controls the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Toushiro keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kvant's head.
Kvant keeping full guard, as Toushiro tries to pass.

Toushiro stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Nice takedown defense from Toushiro. No joy for Kvant on that attempt.
Toushiro's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Toushiro's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Toushiro throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Toushiro has a takedown stuffed.
Kvant tries to score a power double leg takedown but Toushiro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kvant somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Kvant. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kvant doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Toushiro counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kvant looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Toushiro is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kvant is just riding it out for now. Toushiro eventually gives up the hold.
Kvant wants to control but Toushiro is keeping busy.
Toushiro tries to pass to full mount but Kvant defends it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Toushiro content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Toushiro seems to be working for a kimura but Kvant defends the submission attempt.
Toushiro trying to control the action but Kvant is working from the bottom.
Toushiro looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kvant with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Toushiro is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kvant has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kvant is looking to control Toushiro's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kvant avoid being mounted?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Toushiro is stalling here. Kvant is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Toushiro seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kvant has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Toushiro tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kvant wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Toushiro sneaks out the side door and pushes Kvant away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Kvant keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kvant throws a hook to the side of Toushiro's head but Toushiro sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kvant darts in trying to clinch

so Toushiro counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kvant is looking to stand back up but Toushiro counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Kvant.
Kvant is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abel Toushiro dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kvant shoots in but Toushiro avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Toushiro avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Toushiro.

Toushiro has hold of Kvant's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Kvant tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Toushiro cranks the arm and Kvant screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Kvant, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Abel Toushiro!
Abel Toushiro decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
