PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jewell Phelps (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tidus Kormen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kormen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Miss May I- Echoes kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Tidus Kormen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Daniel Blasius and Patrick Alders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kormen is defended easily by Phelps.
Kormen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Phelps tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kormen defends well and Phelps ends up having to push Kormen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Phelps could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jewell Phelps has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tidus Kormen.

Phelps is trying to trip Kormen. He has hold of a leg but Kormen is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Phelps persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Phelps counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kormen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Phelps. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Phelps lands a nice short elbow.

Kormen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Phelps defends well and Kormen ends up having to push Phelps into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Phelps is on top in guard.

Kormen scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Kormen closes the distance and clinches up with Phelps, looking for a takedown. Kormen pushes Phelps against the cage but Phelps circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Kormen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kormen lands in his opponent's guard.
Kormen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kormen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Phelps's head.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tidus Kormen wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kormen wants to take the fight to the mat but Phelps manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Kormen is fighting off a takedown attempt but Phelps is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kormen to the mat. Kormen regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Phelps's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Phelps throws a strike but Kormen rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Phelps is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kormen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
