PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Camel Monkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Maverick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Albert Achterberg.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maverick scoring well with a low kick there.
A chopping leg kick lands by Maverick.
Monkey takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Monkey moves out of range of the body kick.
Monkey throws an off balance right hand
and Maverick counters with a head kick. That will keep Monkey thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Monkey throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Maverick counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Monkey misses with an uppercut
and Maverick makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Camel Monkey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Maverick is looking for a sweep. Monkey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Monkey thows a huge punch but Maverick dodges it nicely.

Maverick working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Monkey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Monkey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maverick is on top in guard.
Maverick must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Maverick buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Maverick fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Monkey has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Maverick counters with a good low kick that Monkey was not able to check.
Dan Maverick is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Monkey throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Maverick sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Monkey takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Maverick cracks Monkey with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That kick from Maverick tenderised Monkey's leg. Monkey is trying to keep his angry face on.

Maverick lands a brutal head kick. Monkey looks out on his feet and Maverick throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
