PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Kyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shavo Odin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kyle comes into the arena with Wasted blaring out of the sound system. Shavo Odin will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Kyle!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shavo Odin!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Odin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Odin cracks a nice hook into Kyle's ribs.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Kyle lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Odin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Odin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Kyle fails with an attempt to clinch.
Odin throws a shot to the body.
Kyle missing with a left hand there. Odin was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Odin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kyle's head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A head kick misses from Kyle.
Odin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Odin avoids a kick to the body.
Kyle throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Odin throws a head kick that misses.
Kyle lands a lovely overhand right.
Kyle scores with a hook.

Odin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kyle was covering up waiting for the punch and Odin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Odin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kyle is keeping the position for now.

Odin controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kyle working a defensive guard but Odin passes into half guard.
Kyle wants to control but Odin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Odin is working for an americana but Kyle has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Odin was thinking about the submission.

Kyle looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Odin has picked Kyle up and slammed him! Kyle can't keep hold of the triangle and Odin manages to pass to side control!
Kyle tries to bench press Odin off him but Odin keeps the position.
Kyle is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Odin off and has taken his back!
Kyle has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Odin is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Kyle off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Kyle is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Odin avoids the strikes from Kyle.
A lull in the action here.

Kyle is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Odin knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Odin for a finish.
Odin trying to control the position but Kyle manages to sink in the hooks.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Odin tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Odin wants to control but Kyle is having none of it.
Kyle takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Odin is bucking up trying to escape but Kyle cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Odin manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Odin is looking to improve his position.
Odin is trying to control but can't.
Odin is positioning himself well to prevent Kyle advancing to mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Odin wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kyle looks to land a strike but Odin avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Kyle scoring with some ground and pound.

Kyle lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Odin has his hands on Kyle's head, controlling the position.
Kyle trying to control the position from guard on top but Odin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kyle throws a strike but Odin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kyle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Odin is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kyle wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Kyle dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A nice inside leg kick there by Kyle. That's going to slow Odin down.
Kyle looks to throw the jab but Odin is out of range.
Odin keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A solid leg kick lands there for Kyle.
A looping hook to the body misses from Odin. Kyle does a little dance to reset his feet.
Odin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kyle takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Odin dives in and grabs Kyle's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kyle pushes down on Odin's head and hops out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kyle looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Odin!
Odin sneaks back into half guard.
Kyle prevents Odin from improving his position.
Kyle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Odin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Odin is looking to get back to full guard here but Kyle has managed to pass to side control instead.
Kyle lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Odin down.
Kyle tries to advance to mount but can't.

Odin prevents Kyle from moving into mount.
Kyle tries to score with some ground and pound. Odin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Odin manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kyle's best efforts.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mark Kyle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Odin is staying active underneath Kyle, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kyle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kyle is keen to just control but Odin is a slippery customer.

Odin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kyle's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kyle's back!
Odin has the hooks in. Kyle is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Odin gets his hands free as Kyle looks to control.

Kyle is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Odin gets his way!

Kyle is trying to get back to his feet but Odin has full control of the position and if anything, Kyle has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Kyle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kyle is looking for a sweep. Odin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mark Kyle will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Kyle feints and as Odin raises his hands in defense, Kyle changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kyle with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Odin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kyle is squirming around, avoiding Odin's attempts to control the action.
Odin fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oh Kyle is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kyle is trying desperately to improve position.
Kyle seems to have got his legs back now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kyle is working hard here to advance position.
Odin postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Kyle badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Odin around the waist but Odin pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Odin is the winner by TKO! Odin jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shavo Odin! Shavo Odin retains his super heavyweight title!
An out of breath Shavo Odin thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
