PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karol Cropp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damo Bodhidharma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karol Cropp!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 19 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Damo Bodhidharma!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cropp digs a good hook to Bodhidharma's body.
Bodhidharma has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Cropp rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Bodhidharma moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cropp.
Cropp dives in for a single leg takedown but Bodhidharma sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bodhidharma has Cropp pushed against the cage.
Cropp trying to control the position but instead, Bodhidharma has worked for underhooks and has pushed Cropp into the cage.

Cropp jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bodhidharma walks away with a smile on his face. Cropp gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Karol Cropp. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cropp shoots for a double leg takedown but Bodhidharma sprawls well. He's pushed Cropp's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Bodhidharma misses with a series of wild punches.

Nice uppercut there from Cropp.
Cropp throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A combination from Bodhidharma does no damage.
Bodhidharma uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cropp.
Bodhidharma throws a one two combo.
Bodhidharma slips a jab from Cropp.
Cropp tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

A jab-cross combination lands for Cropp and sends Bodhidharma crashing to the mat! Cropp follows him down to the mat - Bodhidharma regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


It looks like Damo Bodhidharma has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cropp lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.


Bodhidharma is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cropp throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cropp is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bodhidharma defends it well.
Bodhidharma keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Cropp wants to work for an arm triangle but Bodhidharma is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Cropp in particular looking to stall.

Cropp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bodhidharma keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bodhidharma can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cropp is trying to control the action in half guard but Bodhidharma is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Cropp has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We're going to have a standup here because Karol Cropp wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cropp misses with an uppercut. Bodhidharma saw that one coming.
Bodhidharma fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cropp slips a jab and a cross from Bodhidharma.
Bodhidharma closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bodhidharma gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Bodhidharma shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cropp throws a hook but Bodhidharma blocks it.
Bodhidharma throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cropp misses with a wild combination.
Bodhidharma throws a sloppy head kick and Cropp moves out of range easily.
Cropp misses with a takedown attempt - Bodhidharma sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bodhidharma looks to land a combination but Cropp avoids it well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cropp shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bodhidharma defends it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Cropp lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
A telegraphed right hand from Cropp misses the target.

Cropp is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Bodhidharma lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cropp circles away quickly and effectively.

Cropp avoids the head kick by Bodhidharma.
Cropp lands a nice shot that snaps Bodhidharma's head back.
Cropp cracks Bodhidharma with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Bodhidharma falls to his knees and Cropp doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Karol Cropp!

Karol Cropp decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
