The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shankoli lands a jab to the nose.
Emelianenko fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Shankoli avoids it really well and circles away.
A jab lands there for Shankoli.

Emelianenko shoots in but Shankoli avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Emelianenko definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Emelianenko darts in looking for a takedown but Shankoli gets double underhooks and turns Emelianenko into the cage.

Shankoli has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Emelianenko is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Emelianenko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Emelianenko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Shankoli fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Shankoli cracks Emelianenko with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Alexander Emelianenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shankoli pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Emelianenko shoots for a double leg takedown but Shankoli sprawls well. He's pushed Emelianenko's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shankoli as he jumps to the side.
Shankoli stuns Emelianenko with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Shankoli lands a really nice looking cross but Emelianenko seems unphased.

Emelianenko is breathing heavily.
Emelianenko takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Shankoli is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Emelianenko had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Shankoli scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Shankoli fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Emelianenko checks it well.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shankoli uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Shankoli lands a glancing blow to the side of Emelianenko's head.
Emelianenko shoots in and drives through. Shankoli sprawls well.

Shankoli cracks Emelianenko with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Shankoli has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Emelianenko to stand back up!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Emelianenko is aggressively charging in as Shankoli backs up avoiding any damage. Shankoli tosses out a jab and Emelianenko runs right into it face first! Emelianenko is out cold! Shankoli dropped down on all fours and is barking in Emelianenko's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!
