Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Grant Ward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Walters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Grant Ward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Walters!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walters fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
An inside leg kick lands from Ward.
Walters has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Ward tries to clinch but Walters moves out of range.
Ward leaves Walters with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Walters fails with a takedown attempt.
Grant Ward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Walters.
Ward cracks Walters with a right hand to the side of the head.
Walters will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Walters throws the left hand but Ward avoids the punch easily.
Walters misses with a double jab
and Ward counters with a nice leg kick.
Ward lands a nice shot to the body.
Good leg kick by Ward there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ward thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Walters if he has to take too many more of those.
Walters throws a series of punches but Ward moves out of range.
Ward is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Walters drives through with a takedown into guard.
Walters controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Walters slips nicely into half guard.
Ward tries to get to full guard but Walters has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ward looking for a kimura from the bottom but Walters passes into side control!
Ward is letting Walters control him for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Walters has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Joe Walters hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
A head kick misses from Ward.
Ward stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ward wants it to stay on the feet.
Ward tries to clinch but Walters is having none of it.
We've been told by Ward's head coaches at Main Event Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Ward is looking to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ward looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ward lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

and Walters counters with a shoot takedown. Ward fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ward preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ward doesn't manage to clinch there - Walters circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ward connects with a leg kick. Walters looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Ward misses with a body shot.
Walters swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ward tries to clinch but Walters moves out of range.
Ward is looking to clinch but Walters is avoiding it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Walters dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ward tries to clinch up but Walters circles away and keeps his distance.
Walters closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ward circles away.
Horrible takedown by Walters or perhaps it was just good defense by Ward which made him look bad.
Ward throws a front kick that sends Walters stumbling back into the cage.
Walters takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Joe Walters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walters darts in looking for a takedown but Ward gets double underhooks and turns Walters into the cage.
Grant Ward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Walters.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Ward tries to break the clinch but Walters is controlling the position.
Walters blocks an uppercut.
Ward crunches a lovely knee into Walters's ribcage.
Ward avoiding damage.
Ward misses with some punches.

Ward is looking to control Walters's arms but Walters gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ward has his back to the cage.
Ward throws a head punch that misses.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Ward just misses with a elbow thrown towards Walters's brow.
Ward is trying to maintain a safe position but Walters gets an underhook and turns Ward into the cage.
Ward tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Walters's elbow.

Ward's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ward slips under a jab.
Nice sprawl there from Ward as Walters shoots in.
Ward doesn't manage to clinch there - Walters circles away.
Walters shoots in looking for a takedown but Ward manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Walters's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ward.
Walters shoots for a takedown but Ward saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ward.

Walters shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ward is trying to defend but Walters finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Walters is breathing heavily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ward is trying to stand up here but Walters is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joe Walters was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ward turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Walters circles away from the clinch attempt.

Ward avoids a punch combination nicely.

Walters gets a takedown into half guard.
Walters takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ward is trying to control but Walters passes into side control!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ward is looking to reverse the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Grant Ward will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Walters looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Walters is pressing down on Ward's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ward is holding on for now.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Walters lands a nice short elbow.
Ward tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Walters has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Walters controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ward is working to get back to half guard.
Walters avoids the attempt from Ward to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Walters comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Walters has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
