The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ferreira lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cross circles away quickly and effectively.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Ferreira has eaten all the pies!
Cross looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Cross checks a leg kick.
Ferreira throws a body punch but Cross moves out of range.
Cross shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ferreira as he avoids it easily.

Ferreira rushes Cross and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Ferreira manages to pull guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Ferreira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cross doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cross manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Cross throws a big right hand that misses.
Cross cracks Ferreira with a solid left hand.
Cross is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ferreira is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Cross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cross really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cross throwing strikes from guard but Ferreira blocks nicely.
Cross postures up in Ferreira's guard and throws a big left but Ferreira blocks it.
Cross stands up over Ferreira, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Ferreira lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cross!
Cross is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ferreira in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Cross gets back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ferreira passes to side control.
Cross is trying to improve his position.

Ferreira working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cross is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Ferreira thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cross is looking for a sweep.
Ferreira trying to control the position but Cross is working away.
Cross is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cross won't allow Ferreira to pass to mount.
Ferreira prevents Cross from improving his position.
Cross wants to get back to his feet.
Ferreira wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cross keeps working.
Ferreira tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cross.

Cross wants to sweep but Ferreira has passed to side control!
Ferreira trying to control the action but Cross is working from the bottom.

Cross tries to bench press Ferreira off him but Ferreira keeps the position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cross manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

A close round but Rodrigo Ferreira will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Ferreira scores with a takedown into Cross's guard.

Cross had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ferreira defends it easily.
Cross wants to hit a switch here but Ferreira passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Cross there!
Cross is working to get back to half guard.
Cross tries to improve his position but instead Ferreira has taken his back!

Cross is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
I really don't envy Cross right now.

Cross is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ferreira softening up his opponent with strikes here.
Ferreira tries to get the hooks in deep but Cross pushed the leg off.

You can see the frustration on Cross's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cross tries to roll but Ferreira sticks to his back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cross staying busy and making it hard for Ferreira to control.

Cross won't enjoy being in this position. Ferreira looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Cross is tapping - it's over boys! Ferreira picks up the submission victory!
