PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Scottie Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henkka Seppala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Seppala has chosen Children of Bodom - Smile pretty for the devil as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scottie Power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Henkka Seppala!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Power, right into the meat.
Seppala scores with a crisp jab that stopped Power in his tracks.
Seppala tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Power was well out of range. Poor timing from Seppala.
Power goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Power throws a chopping leg kick but Seppala manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Seppala misses with a hook.
Power attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Seppala takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Seppala misses with a double jab.
Nice defenses there by Power.
Seppala throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Power throws out a loose jab but Seppala uses good head movement to avoid it.
Power is looking to chop away at Seppala's legs.
Seppala darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Seppala lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Power wants to land a leg kick but Seppala is out of range.

Good leg kick by Power there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Power with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Seppala ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Power moves away.

Seppala has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Power goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Power lands with a kick to the ribs.
Seppala throws a shot from downtown. Power moves away and avoids it.
Seppala throws a right and a left that Power avoids nicely.
Power connects with an inside leg kick.

Power lets loose with a powerful body kick. Seppala will feel that in the morning.
Power misses with a low kick as Seppala jumps back.
Power feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Seppala's calf.
A nice leg kick lands there from Power.
Power shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
A jab lands there for Power.
Seppala's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Power wants to slow Seppala down by chopping away at his legs.

Seppala has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Power.
Seppala avoids a kick to the body.
Seppala slips a straight right by Power.
Seppala moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Seppala moves forwards but Power connects with a nice, crisp jab.

and Seppala counters with a nice double leg into side control. Power won't be happy with that.

Power is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Seppala off and has taken his back!
Power scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Seppala is in bad spot here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Power trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Seppala is working to avoid the ground and pound but Power connects with a decent elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Power looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Seppala is avoiding damage well.

Power working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Seppala is trying to improve his position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Power is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Seppala knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Seppala's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Scottie Power will probably get the nod.
That's time! Power's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Seppala takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Power is refusing to be controlled, as Seppala sits in half guard.
Seppala drops an elbow to the side of Power's head.
Seppala not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Seppala thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Seppala thows a huge punch but Power dodges it nicely.
Power wants to control but Seppala is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Seppala looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Power with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Power is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Seppala accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Power is pulling down on Seppala's head. It's preventing any offense from Seppala, at least for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Seppala shoots in looking for a takedown but Power manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Seppala's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Power lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Henkka Seppala showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

That kick from Power tenderised Seppala's leg. Seppala is trying to keep his angry face on.

Power is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Seppala takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Power's Muay Thai looks sharper than normal. He has obviously been working on it in the gym.
Seppala has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Power.

Seppala moves out of range as Power throws a body kick.
Power throws a leg kick which misses Seppala's front leg but catches the back leg as Seppala tries to avoid it.
Power throws the kick towards the body but Seppala avoids it.

Power attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Henkka Seppala has got the better of the ground game so far.
Power is not content to let Seppala control the position.
Power is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Seppala's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

I would just about give that final round to Henkka Seppala.
I think Seppala has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
