PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Davi Nanini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesper Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rush is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Tom Sawyer - Rush. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davi Nanini!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesper Rush!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush blocks a head kick by Nanini.
Nanini misses with a head kick.
Rush avoids the head kick by Nanini.
Nanini misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nanini takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Nanini throws a head kick that misses.
Nanini checks a leg kick nicely.
Rush blocks a head kick by Nanini.
Nanini throws a looping overhand right but Rush ducks down to avoid it.
Nanini tries a head kick but it misses.
Nanini throws a sloppy head kick and Rush moves out of range easily.
Rush listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Rush feints and as Nanini raises his hands in defense, Rush changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nanini is breathing heavily.
Rush controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rush postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rush not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Rush stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nanini swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rush wants to control from the top but Nanini keeps moving.
Rush stays in close to Nanini's body and controls the position.

Nanini looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rush connects with a couple of short punches.
Nanini trying to keep a closed guard but Rush is proving a slippery customer.

Nanini has his foot on Rush's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rush works his way back into a safe position though.
Rush not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Nanini looking for a guillotine here but Rush defends easily.
Rush is working Nanini over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Rush looking to sit in guard and control but Nanini gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rush manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nanini manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rush had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Nanini is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rush Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Nanini's back instead.

Nanini breaks Rush's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Rush has Nanini pulled in close to control his posture.

Nanini sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Rush to the ground! Nanini dives into full mount looking to finish!

It looks like Jesper Rush has been cut.
Nanini tries to push Rush's head away but Rush is holding on tight.
Rush is still in real trouble! Can Nanini finish him?
Nanini tries to control but Rush wriggling away.
Rush seems to have recovered his senses.
Rush swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Rush wants to hold on but Nanini pushes him away.
Rush is controlling an arm, preventing Nanini from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rush manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Rush is positioning himself well to prevent Nanini advancing to mount.
Rush throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Nanini is trying to control the action in half guard but Rush is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rush wants to control but Nanini is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jesper Rush just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nice straight punches there by Rush. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rush.


It looks like Davi Nanini has been cut.

Rush feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jesper Rush showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Nice uppercut lands for Rush. That snapped Nanini's head back.
Rush bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Nanini's head backwards.

and Rush counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rush working over Nanini with some ground and pound. Nanini looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Nanini is in trouble now - Rush has advanced to mount!

Davi Nanini has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rush lands a big shot there that rocks Nanini but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Jesper Rush comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rush has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
