PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Agustin Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Sleigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Agustin Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Sleigh!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sleigh tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ellis defends well and Sleigh ends up having to push Ellis into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ellis pulls guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Ellis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Sleigh must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ellis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sleigh controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Agustin Ellis just wasn't active enough.
Ellis darts in trying to clinch

and Sleigh counters by moving into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ellis is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sleigh to keep the fight standing.

Sleigh gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Ellis has a hand on Sleigh's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Sleigh takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Sleigh content just to control the position here.

Sleigh lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sleigh takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ellis is looking to improve his position but Sleigh isn't that keen on the idea.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Ellis is bucking up trying to escape but Sleigh cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Ellis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Sleigh controlling from mount.
Sleigh avoids the attempt from Ellis to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ellis has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Sleigh dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sleigh tries for a takedown but Ellis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Brandon Sleigh is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Sleigh, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ellis stuffs the takedown attempt from Sleigh. Sleigh gets slowly back to his feet.
Sleigh avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ellis slips a jab and a cross from Sleigh.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ellis is defended easily by Sleigh.
Sleigh throws a right hand that Ellis ducks under and follows up with a left that Ellis also avoids with ease.

Sleigh shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sleigh showed some decent athleticism there.
Ellis tries to roll over but Sleigh keeps him under control.

Sleigh content to control rather than advance.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sleigh sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ellis defending well though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ellis slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Sleigh is stalling in the full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brandon Sleigh wasn't active enough on the ground.
Sleigh swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ellis counters with a three punch combo that has Sleigh backing up. Sleigh nods at Ellis to acknowledge the strikes.
Ellis slaps away a takedown attempt from Sleigh, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Agustin Ellis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Sleigh.

Ellis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sleigh as he avoids it easily.
Ellis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Sleigh closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sleigh lands in his opponent's guard.
Sleigh slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Sleigh showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ellis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Sleigh shoots in and bounces Ellis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Sleigh content to stall in guard here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Agustin Ellis just wasn't active enough.
Sleigh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ellis as he avoids it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sleigh shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sleigh was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ellis being controlled for a moment.
Ellis struggling a bit here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sleigh in side control, just content to control the action for now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sleigh looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ellis is trying to control but can't.
Sleigh seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sleigh fails with the takedown.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brandon Sleigh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sleigh has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
