PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bradley Henson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devon Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Kavanagh and Jorge Garcia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez ducks under a wild hook from Henson.
Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Henson as he avoids it easily.

Gonzalez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Henson was covering up waiting for the punch and Gonzalez finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Henson trying to keep a closed guard but Gonzalez is proving a slippery customer.

Henson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gonzalez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Henson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gonzalez defends it easily.
Henson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Gonzalez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Henson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Gonzalez is pushing down on Henson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Henson is fighting to maintain full guard but Gonzalez has managed to sneak the leg through.

Henson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gonzalez pulls his head out easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Gonzalez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Henson is looking for a sweep. Gonzalez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Devon Gonzalez was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Henson pushes Gonzalez up against the cage in a clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Henson.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gonzalez has clasped his hands together around Henson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
You can see the frustration on Henson's face as Gonzalez controls the position.
Henson is trying to improve his position.
Henson is not content to let Gonzalez control the position.
Gonzalez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Gonzalez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Henson comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Gonzalez is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Gonzalez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Henson defends it nicely.
Bradley Henson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devon Gonzalez.
Henson lands a really nice looking cross but Gonzalez seems unphased.
A jab lands there for Henson.
Henson scores with a nice head shot.
Henson misses with an uppercut. Gonzalez saw that one coming.
Gonzalez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Gonzalez shoots in and drives through. Henson sprawls well.

Henson closes the distance and clinches.
Henson is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Henson lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Gonzalez's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Gonzalez wants a takedown.

Henson jumps into guard, dragging Gonzalez to the mat.
Henson controls Gonzalez momentarily but Gonzalez frees himself.

Henson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gonzalez defends well.
Gonzalez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gonzalez is posturing up here but Henson has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Gonzalez tries to roll out but it's too tight and Gonzalez has to tap! Slick submission there by Henson!
