PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Diamond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 2, fighting out of New York, Jason Diamond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 47 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Lou da Vinci and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez shoots in looking for a takedown. Diamond tries to sprawl out of it but Mendez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diamond manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mendez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Diamond quickly recovers to half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Mendez is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Diamond reverses the position - he's now on top in Mendez's guard.
Diamond passes into half guard.
Mendez is looking for a sweep. Diamond is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Diamond is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mendez moves into full guard.
Diamond trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diamond wants to stand but Mendez is controlling his posture from full guard.

Mendez looking for a guillotine here but Diamond defends easily.
Diamond preventing the sweep.
Diamond wants to pass the guard but Mendez is keeping the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mendez keeping moving, preventing Diamond from controlling successfully.

Mendez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mendez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Jason Diamond has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Mendez.
Mendez tries for a takedown but Diamond sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Diamond misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mendez.
Mendez dives in for a single leg takedown but Diamond sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Mendez wants to take the fight to the mat but Diamond manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Diamond wants to stall.

Diamond breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Diamond lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mendez attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Diamond throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Diamond throws out a powerful jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mendez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Diamond sees it coming and avoids it easily.
No joy there for Diamond, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Diamond uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mendez.
Mendez connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Mendez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diamond throws out the jab.
Mendez dives in for a single leg takedown but Diamond sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Diamond is trying to stall.
Mendez wants a takedown but no success here.
Diamond trying to control the position but instead, Mendez has worked for underhooks and has pushed Diamond into the cage.
Mendez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Diamond fights it off and pushes away nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A decent looking cross lands there for Mendez.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jason Diamond.
I think Diamond has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
