PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between The Can (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rory Kirkpatrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, The Can!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rory Kirkpatrick!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kirkpatrick.
Can misses with an uppercut.
Kirkpatrick tries to clinch there but Can circles away.
Kirkpatrick fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Can fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Can throws a series of punches but Kirkpatrick avoids them all with ease.
Rory Kirkpatrick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kirkpatrick shoots in but no luck this time.
Can keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Kirkpatrick throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Can sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kirkpatrick fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Can avoids it really well and circles away.
Kirkpatrick fails with a takedown attempt.
The Can has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rory Kirkpatrick.
Can uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
A jab lands there for Can.
Kirkpatrick misses with a takedown attempt - Can sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Can jabbing away but nothing is landing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Can bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kirkpatrick's head.
Kirkpatrick shoots for a takedown but Can saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Can seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Can with a hook.
Can thuds a left hand into Kirkpatrick's body.
Can tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Can misses with an uppercut. Kirkpatrick saw that one coming.
Kirkpatrick throws a front kick aimed at Can's knee but Can avoids it well.
Can checks a low kick from Kirkpatrick.
Kirkpatrick throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Can's waist but Can gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kirkpatrick off to one side.
Can lands a nice looking body shot.
Can is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kirkpatrick.
Can throws a hook but Kirkpatrick avoids it easily.
Can throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kirkpatrick chopping away at his opponent's legs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kirkpatrick tries to move into range but Can moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Can throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kirkpatrick stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kirkpatrick buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Can lands a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kirkpatrick uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Can.
Can lands a nice hook to Kirkpatrick's body. Kirkpatrick takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Kirkpatrick tries to score a power double leg takedown but Can sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kirkpatrick somewhat.
Can thuds his right hand into Kirkpatrick's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Can scores with a nice strike.
Can scores with the left hand. Kirkpatrick knows he should have avoided that one.
Can thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kirkpatrick shoots for a double leg takedown but Can sprawls well. He's pushed Kirkpatrick's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kirkpatrick is trying desperately to land a takedown but Can is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Kirkpatrick.
Can scores with a jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kirkpatrick.
Kirkpatrick is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kirkpatrick thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Can wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Can might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kirkpatrick wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Can, who protects the arm well.

Kirkpatrick working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kirkpatrick postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kirkpatrick is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Can looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kirkpatrick gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Can is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kirkpatrick lets go of the hold and Can can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rory Kirkpatrick!
A very excited looking Rory Kirkpatrick made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
