The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcconnell tries to close the distance and clinch but Castanha swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Castanha looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Mcconnell uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Castanha.
Castanha misses with a double jab

and Mcconnell counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Mcconnell is trying to drag Castanha to the mat but Castanha just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Mcconnell tightens his grip and picks Castanha up, before dumping him to the ground. Castanha manages to land in guard.

Castanha told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Castanha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcconnell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Castanha can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mcconnell is nestled in close to Castanha, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mcconnell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
