The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibiatti displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Funkyama throws out the jab.
Funkyama throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Gibiatti connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Funkyama circles away from the clinch attempt.

Gibiatti clinches up with Funkyama and pushes him back against the cage.
Funkyama is working for takedown but Gibiatti is calmly controlling the position for now.
Gibiatti lands a nice shot to the body.
Gibiatti can't find room to land a body shot as Funkyama controls the action.
Funkyama blocks a body shot from Gibiatti.
Gibiatti misses with a punch to the body.

Funkyama turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Funkyama manages to end up in side control.
Funkyama tries to move into full mount but can't pass Gibiatti's legs.

Gibiatti manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Gibiatti is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gibiatti connects with a nice short shot to Funkyama's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gibiatti is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Funkyama sees it coming and defends easily.
Funkyama has hold of Gibiatti's hands but Gibiatti slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gibiatti not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Gibiatti throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gibiatti trying to control from half guard but Funkyama is working away.
Funkyama is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gibiatti's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gibiatti's back!

Funkyama keeps control of the position as Gibiatti tries to break free.
Funkyama is looking to control Gibiatti but Gibiatti is wriggling around and keeping busy.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Funkyama looking to break Gibiatti's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Gibiatti remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Funkyama will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
My spies in Brazilian Elite Team inform me that Funkyama has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Gibiatti is trying to get back to his feet but Funkyama has full control of the position and if anything, Gibiatti has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Funkyama has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Gibiatti! Can he survive? No! He's out! Funkyama gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
