And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dj Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Richards.
Sanchez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Richards tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Richards has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Richards is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Steel Penn/Heavy Hands Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Richards accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Richards escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanchez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Richards had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sanchez defends it easily.

Richards throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sanchez uses it to pass to side control.

Sanchez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Richards knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rex Richards overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Richards manages to reverse the position and now he's in Sanchez's guard. Nice work there by Richards.

Sanchez pushes a forearm under Richards's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Richards is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
