PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Toshi Matoshin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Udo Hitzlsperger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matoshin comes into the arena with Mortal Kombat theme blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Toshi Matoshin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Udo Hitzlsperger!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hitzlsperger ducks under a wild hook from Matoshin.
Matoshin moves out of range as Hitzlsperger throws a body kick.
Matoshin dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Matoshin looks to land a left hand but Hitzlsperger moved out of range nicely.
Hitzlsperger takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Hitzlsperger takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
A solid leg kick lands there for Hitzlsperger.

Hitzlsperger clinches up against the cage.

Matoshin decides to pull guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hitzlsperger pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Matoshin is keeping the position for now.
Hitzlsperger controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hitzlsperger trying to move into half guard but instead Matoshin has managed to sweep!

Matoshin wants to control from the top but Hitzlsperger keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Matoshin throws an off balance right hand
and Hitzlsperger counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Hitzlsperger is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Hitzlsperger fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Matoshin, pushing him back against the cage.

Matoshin successfully pulls guard.

Matoshin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hitzlsperger's guard.

Matoshin drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hitzlsperger manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Matoshin has Hitzlsperger in his guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hitzlsperger wants to control from the top but Matoshin keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Matoshin has an active guard here but Hitzlsperger has managed to pass into half guard.
Matoshin is staying active underneath Hitzlsperger, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Matoshin is trying to get back to full guard.
Hitzlsperger wants to take a breather but Matoshin is having none of it.
Hitzlsperger might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Matoshin haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Udo Hitzlsperger has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
That kick from Hitzlsperger tenderised Matoshin's leg. Matoshin is trying to keep his angry face on.

Hitzlsperger swings wildly with an uppercut but Matoshin uses good head movement to avoid it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Matoshin wants to control but Hitzlsperger passes easily into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Matoshin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Toshi Matoshin will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Matoshin tries to keep at a distance but Hitzlsperger has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hitzlsperger doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Hitzlsperger softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Matoshin blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Matoshin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hitzlsperger gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Hitzlsperger in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Hitzlsperger controlling the action here for a moment.

Matoshin drags the fight down to the ground.
Hitzlsperger wants to get up but he can't break Matoshin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Matoshin has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hitzlsperger is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Matoshin.

Hitzlsperger goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Matoshin rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hitzlsperger's guard! Nice work there by Matoshin!

Hitzlsperger is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hitzlsperger can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Matoshin controls the pace.

Matoshin has hold of one of Hitzlsperger's legs. Hitzlsperger is fighting the takedown attempt but Matoshin gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Matoshin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hitzlsperger looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hitzlsperger looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hitzlsperger!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hitzlsperger is keen to just control but Matoshin is a slippery customer.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Matoshin pivots, looking for a leg kick but Hitzlsperger is out of range and Matoshin settles back down.

Matoshin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hitzlsperger uses from the top position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Udo Hitzlsperger hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Matoshin pulls Hitzlsperger in to control the position.
Hitzlsperger is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Udo Hitzlsperger.
Matoshin lands a lovely overhand right.
Matoshin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Matoshin misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hitzlsperger counters with a nice leg kick.
Hitzlsperger throws a hook but Matoshin avoids it easily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Matoshin darts in looking for a takedown but Hitzlsperger gets double underhooks and turns Matoshin into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Toshi Matoshin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hitzlsperger misses with a short punch on the inside.
Matoshin is trying to drag Hitzlsperger to the mat but Hitzlsperger just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Matoshin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hitzlsperger smiles and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Udo Hitzlsperger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hitzlsperger has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
