The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Winkle avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Van Winkle walks into a stiff left hand from Nash.
Van Winkle shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Nash defends it nicely.
Van Winkle thows a left - swing and a miss!
Good shot there by Nash.
Nash throws out a leg kick but Van Winkle moves out of range and Nash only half commits.
Van Winkle throws a lazy uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Van Winkle uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nash.
Nash throws a low kick but Van Winkle moves out of range easily.
Nash throws the kick towards the body but Van Winkle avoids it.
Nash tries to bum rush Van Winkle with a series of wild strikes but Van Winkle uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Van Winkle throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Blake Nash is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Nash bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Van Winkle bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Nash's head backwards.

Nash lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

and Van Winkle counters with a takedown into side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Van Winkle wants to control but Nash is keeping him busy.
Van Winkle throws an elbow but Nash slips to the side and avoids it well.
Nash is trying to improve his position.

Van Winkle working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Van Winkle is working for a kimura but Nash is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Van Winkle tries to land a front kick but Nash steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Both fighters circling a little - Van Winkle finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Nash lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Nash.

Nash fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Van Winkle has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nash stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Van Winkle swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Van Winkle is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Nash defends well.
Nash is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Van Winkle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Blake Nash wasn't active enough on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Van Winkle takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Van Winkle is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Nash defends it well.

Van Winkle is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nash is just riding it out for now. Van Winkle eventually gives up the hold.

And that's the end of the fight!
