PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Spezza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Lima's choice of entrance music: DMX - Ain't no sunshine. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Spezza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Douglas Lima!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Spezza catches Lima right on the button with a cross.
Lima wants to clinch up but Spezza keeps it at a distance.
Lima tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Spezza was well out of range. Poor timing from Lima.
Lima throws a big shot that misses.
Lima misses with a jab, cross combination.
Spezza tries to work over Lima's front leg with a kick but Lima checks it.
Lima cracks Spezza with a right hand to the side of the head.
Douglas Lima seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A bone on bone clash there as Spezza blocks the leg kick.

Spezza is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Lima's shoulder. That is not cool.
Spezza has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spezza postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Lima is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Spezza lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.


It looks like Douglas Lima has been cut.

Lima tries to hold on but Spezza pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lima on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Spezza got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lima has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Spezza has managed to get both his arms back between Lima's legs - danger averted.

Lima working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Spezza doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Spezza manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Spezza escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nice uppercut lands for Spezza. That snapped Lima's head back.
Spezza does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Lima tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Spezza was well out of range. Poor timing from Lima.

and Spezza counters with a nice body kick.
Lima shoots for a takedown but Spezza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Spezza darts in looking for a takedown but Lima gets double underhooks and turns Spezza into the cage.

Spezza lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Spezza's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Spezza duly obliges.
A lazy left from Lima finds it's target.
Spezza lands a head kick. Lima smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Lima is rocked!
Spezza cracks Lima on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Lima falls backwards against the cage. Spezza follows up with more strikes that drop Lima to his knees. Spezza keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Lima! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jason Spezza!
Jason Spezza really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Vandal Fight Boutique & Laundry logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
