Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darrel Hopper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malcolm Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Darrel Hopper has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darrel Hopper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Malcolm Torres!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Torres is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hopper's half guard.
Hopper tries to roll over but Torres keeps him under control.
Torres looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hopper is looking to control Torres's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hopper avoid being mounted?

Malcolm Torres has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Torres closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hopper's guard.

Hopper looking to control.
Torres stays in close to Hopper's body and controls the position.
Torres really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hopper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hopper gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Torres counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hopper's guard now.

Hopper bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Torres's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hopper throws a strike but Torres rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Torres engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Hopper is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Torres wants to improve his position but Hopper is controlling well.
Hopper throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Torres is staying active underneath Hopper, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Hopper not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Hopper is working for an americana but Torres has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Hopper was thinking about the submission.
Torres is pulling down on Hopper's head to control his posture.
Torres preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Torres pushes Hopper off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Hopper has his takedown stuffed

so Torres counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Torres tries to free his leg and advance position but Hopper is retaining full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Malcolm Torres hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Torres decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Torres dives in and scores a takedown into Hopper's guard.
Torres stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopper swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hopper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Malcolm Torres wasn't active enough on the ground.

Torres closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hopper did well to prevent Torres getting side control.
Torres takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hopper wants to get back to full guard.
Hopper wants to control but Torres is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Torres slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hopper gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hopper is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Torres's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Torres's back!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hopper somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

Torres manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.

Torres feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Torres works to advance to full mount. Hopper defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Malcolm Torres was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hopper has his takedown stuffed
and Torres counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Hopper moves into the clinch.

Torres wants the takedown. Hopper is fighting it off but Torres persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hopper's guard against the cage.

Darrel Hopper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
