PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Caio Cesar Caprillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Raban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caprillo comes into the arena with The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun blaring out of the sound system. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 32 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Caio Cesar Caprillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Raban!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caprillo fails to land the takedown.
Raban displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Caprillo.
Raban avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Caprillo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Caprillo is trying to control the action in half guard but Raban is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Raban is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Caprillo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Caprillo's back!

Raban doesn't have the hooks in and Caprillo manages to turn into his guard.

Caprillo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Caprillo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Caprillo stays in close to Raban's body and controls the position.
Raban looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Caio Cesar Caprillo.
Raban darts in looking for a takedown but Caprillo gets double underhooks and turns Raban into the cage.

Caprillo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Raban swats away the attempt to clinch by Caprillo.
Raban misses with a double jab.
Caprillo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Raban circles away.

The fight stays on the outside here - Caprillo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Caio Cesar Caprillo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Raban connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Caprillo takes the fight into the clinch.
Caprillo is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Raban is keeping busy.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Caprillo wants to stall.
Raban is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Caprillo landing knees to the body.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Caprillo creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Raban throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Caprillo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Raban wants to control from the top but Caprillo keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Caprillo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Raban paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Caprillo looks to land a body kick but Raban moved away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Raban scores with a head kick. Caprillo tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Caprillo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Raban tries to avoid it but Caprillo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Raban to the ground. Raban escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Raban avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Caprillo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Raban swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Caprillo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Raban looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Caprillo is trying to get an arm triangle but Raban is defending well.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Caprillo here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Raban gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Raban is not content to let Caprillo control the position.
Caprillo works his way into full mount!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Raban bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Caprillo moves in looking to clinch but Raban pushes him off.
Raban stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Raban wants it to stay on the feet.
No luck for Raban with that takedown attempt.
Raban pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James Raban seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Caprillo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Raban counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Raban wants to clinch.
Raban moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Raban looks to land a combination but Caprillo avoids it well.

Caprillo moves into the clinch successfully.
Raban wants to take the fight to the mat but Caprillo manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Raban has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Caprillo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Caprillo is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Raban gets his way!
Caprillo tries to escape but Raban has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Raban is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Caprillo knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Caprillo for a finish.

Raban is persistently looking for the submission but Caprillo is defending it well.

Caprillo wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.

Raban is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
