The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Menchaka sprawls well. Menchaka wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mendez gets slowly back to his feet.

Mendez has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Mendez walks straight into a right hand from Menchaka - that's dropped him! Menchaka jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Mendez from any more punishment! Mendez complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

After the fight, Mitchell Menchaka was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
