Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Simons III (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams has chosen All the Above- Maino ft. T-Pain as his entrance music. Paul Williams will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 28 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Simons III!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 42 - 24 - 3, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Williams!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Simons III is defended easily by Williams.
Simons III shoots in looking for a takedown. Williams tries to sprawl out of it but Simons III keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Williams manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Williams is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Simons III.
Simons III tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Williams lands a slapping body shot.
Williams throws a nice head kick!


It looks like John Simons III has been cut.
Simons III takes a kick to the side of the head.
Williams lands a nice shot to the body.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Simons III crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Williams - the referee stops the clock and Simons III gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Williams. Simons III manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Williams lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Williams has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Simons III shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Williams pinned against the cage. Williams gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Williams fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Simons III looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Williams wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Williams throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Williams looks to land a left hand but Simons III moved out of range nicely.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Simons III is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Williams off and has taken his back!

Williams is having to fend off submission attempts from Simons III, who is looking to sink in the choke. Simons III doesn't have the hooks in though and Williams manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Simons III might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Simons III is looking to sweep but instead, Williams has passed into half guard.

Simons III is trying to control but can't.

Simons III is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Williams jumps into side control!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Williams feints and then cracks Simons III's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Simons III down.
Williams slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Williams bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Simons III's head backwards.
Williams scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Simons III doesn't seem bothered though.
Simons III misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Williams stuffs the takedown.
Simons III moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Williams misses with a looping right.
Williams is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Simons III is looking for a choke. Williams gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Williams manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Simons III will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Williams dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Simons III. That did some damage!

Simons III seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Simons III closes the distance and clinches up with Williams, looking for a takedown. Simons III pushes Williams against the cage but Williams circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Williams catches Simons III with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Paul Williams seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Williams lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Simons III has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Simons III and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Williams throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Williams throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Simons III on the side of the head.

Simons III needs to keep his hands up - Williams had a free shot at his head there.

Both fighters circling a little - Williams finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Simons III dives in and grabs Williams's left leg, looking for a takedown. Williams pushes down on Simons III's head and hops out.

Williams throws a front kick aimed at Simons III's knee but Simons III avoids it well.

Nice straight punches there by Williams. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Williams.

Simons III tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Williams defends well and Simons III ends up having to push Williams into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Williams not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Williams got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simons III has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Williams has managed to get both his arms back between Simons III's legs - danger averted.

Paul Williams comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Williams has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
