PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ask Fairchild (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aatish Sunuwar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fairchild comes to the cage accompanied by Jesse & Joy - Llorar. Sunuwar has chosen Peace Sells as his entrance music. Aatish Sunuwar will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ask Fairchild!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aatish Sunuwar!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fairchild throws an overhand right that lands on Sunuwar's shoulder, as Sunuwar tries to avoid the shot.

Fairchild gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fairchild working the body and head with strikes.
The ground and pound from Fairchild seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Sunuwar sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Fairchild lands with a punch from half guard.
Fairchild really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Sunuwar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fairchild pulls his head out easily.

Sunuwar has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Reign in Blood. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Fairchild drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sunuwar manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fairchild has Sunuwar in his guard.

Sunuwar passes Fairchild's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Fairchild moves into full guard.
Sunuwar slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sunuwar looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Sunuwar tries for a kimura but Fairchild is defending well.

Sunuwar controlling the position.
Sunuwar trying to control the position but Fairchild is working away.
Fairchild regains half guard.
Fairchild works his way to full guard. Good work.

Fairchild looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sunuwar prevents Fairchild from getting back to his feet.
Fairchild looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sunuwar puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sunuwar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fairchild does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Fairchild wants to get back to full guard.

Sunuwar is trying to work for a kimura but Fairchild is defending well.

Sunuwar is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fairchild doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sunuwar.

Fairchild holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Sunuwar stalling away here and it's allowed Fairchild to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Sunuwar trying to control the position from guard on top but Fairchild is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fairchild controls Sunuwar momentarily but Sunuwar frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ask Fairchild dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fairchild swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sunuwar lands with a cross.
Fairchild throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Sunuwar counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Ask Fairchild seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sunuwar throws a looping overhand right but Fairchild ducks down to avoid it.

Fairchild bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sunuwar defending against the ground and pound.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fairchild grinds an elbow into Sunuwar's temple.
You can see the frustration on Sunuwar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fairchild cracks Sunuwar with a big right hand but Sunuwar just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Fairchild tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fairchild has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sunuwar is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fairchild's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Fairchild is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fairchild throwing shots but Sunuwar is blocking nicely.
Fairchild lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Fairchild misses with a head shot. Sunuwar uses the momentum to regain guard.
Fairchild throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fairchild throws a big right hand that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fairchild accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sunuwar working a defensive guard here.

Sunuwar has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fairchild is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Sunuwar.

Sunuwar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fairchild off and has taken his back!
Sunuwar is not going to allow Fairchild to sit and survive in this position.
Fairchild wants to escape the position.

Well, with Sunuwar on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Fairchild is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Sunuwar is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Fairchild with him. Fairchild is trying to defend but Sunuwar has an arm under the chin now! Fairchild grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Aatish Sunuwar!
A relieved looking Aatish Sunuwar thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
