Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifton Carey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Baker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Clifton Carey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Baker!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Chris Dean and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker tries to clinch but Carey is having none of it.

Baker closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Carey did well to prevent Baker getting side control.
Carey trying to control from the bottom.
Carey tries to roll over but Baker keeps him under control.
Baker is looking to take a break and control but Carey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Carey really is a fat lump.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carey pushes Baker off looking to stand but Baker dives back in and keeps control.
Carey is looking for a sweep. Baker is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Carey is not content to let Baker control the position.

John Baker has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Carey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Baker looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Baker is keen to just control but Carey is a slippery customer.
Baker is looking to stall here but Carey recovers full guard.
Carey wants to stand and escape but Baker is having none of it.
Carey has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Carey doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Carey tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Carey wants to get back to his feet but Baker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Carey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Carey keeping moving, preventing Baker from controlling successfully.
Carey not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Baker hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Carey tries to keep at a distance but Baker has taken the fight into the clinch.

Carey lands a takedown into guard.
Baker is trying to control the position but Carey postures up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Baker holds on and takes a little breather.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carey throws an elbow that misses. Baker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Carey's guard. Nice move by Baker!

Baker wants to pass the guard but Carey is keeping the position.

Carey has his feet on Baker's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Baker misses with a wild body shot.

Carey tries to sprawl but Baker drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Carey is pressing down on Baker's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Baker controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Baker wants to control from the top but Carey keeps moving.
Carey is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Baker is controlling him.
Baker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Carey is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Carey pushes Baker off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Baker drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carey wants to stand up but Baker is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Baker dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Baker throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carey was covering up waiting for the punch and Baker finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Carey tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Baker wants to stand but Carey has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Carey keeping moving, preventing Baker from controlling successfully.
Baker looking to sit in guard and control but Carey gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Carey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Baker trying to keep a closed guard but Carey is proving a slippery customer.
Baker wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Baker was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Baker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Baker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Carey regains half guard.
Baker wants to stand up but Carey is controlling the position.
Baker is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Baker is breathing heavily.
Baker not doing much here.

Carey trying to hold on to Baker's head to control him but Baker postures up.
Carey is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Clifton Carey has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Baker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carey napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Carey wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Baker. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Carey bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Carey wants to get up but he can't break Baker's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Carey's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Carey tries to stand but Baker is controlling from the bottom.
Carey trying to control the position from guard on top but Baker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carey is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Baker throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Baker has Carey pulled in close to control his posture.

Carey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Baker looking for a sweep. Not yet Baker, not yet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Baker looking to score a takedown here. Carey is defending well but Baker drives through and ends up in Carey's guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Baker feints and as Carey raises his hands in defense, Baker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Carey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Baker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Carey wants to stand up but Baker is controlling him.
Carey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Baker is one step ahead there.
Baker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carey swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baker throws a series of punches but Carey moves out of range.

Carey gets caught napping as Baker dives in and scores a takedown. Carey manages to retain guard.

Baker closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Baker wants to control but Carey is keeping him busy.
Carey is trying to get back to his feet.
Baker is looking to take a break and control but Carey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Carey dodges the ground and pound from Baker.
Who's going to make the next move?

Baker looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Baker is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carey has escaped the position, nice work there.
Carey tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Baker presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Carey tries to lock up and control but Baker gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Carey squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Baker avoids the attempt from Carey to control.
Carey stops Baker from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carey is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Baker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Baker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
