PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Ash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, 2Pac – Only Fear Of Death. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Garcia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Adam Ash!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ash slips under a jab from Garcia.
Ash takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


It looks like Adam Ash has been cut.
Ash misses with a takedown attempt - Garcia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Garcia works the jab nicely.
Garcia misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ash.
Ash tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Garcia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Garcia counters with a nice uppercut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ash throws a hook but Garcia avoids it easily.

Ash connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ash throws a series of punches but Garcia moves out of range.
No joy there for Garcia, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ash moves in looking to clinch but Garcia pushes him off.
Garcia bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The fighters circling - Garcia throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
A left lands for Garcia.
Ash throws a combination that misses
letting Garcia counter with a right hand.
Ash connects with a single shot there.
Some wild striking there from Ash.
Adam Ash seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ash closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ash lands in his opponent's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Garcia wants to get back to his feet but Ash is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Ash throws a big right hand that misses.
Ash is looking to work some ground and pound but Garcia has wrist control.
Ash missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Ash stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garcia swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Garcia avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ash wants to control from the top but Garcia keeps moving.
Ash is looking to work some ground and pound but Garcia has wrist control.
Ash loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ash takes one on the button.
Ash tries to clinch up but Garcia circles away and keeps his distance.
Garcia misses with a double jab
and Ash counters with a right hand to the body.
Ash tries to clinch but Garcia is having none of it.
Garcia avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Garcia tries to bum rush Ash with a series of wild strikes but Ash uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ash jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ash throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Garcia stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Ash manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Garcia on his heels. He'll look to pass Garcia's guard now, I'm sure.

Garcia kicks Ash off and gets to his feet.
Ash throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garcia's waist but Garcia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ash off to one side.
Ash doesn't manage to clinch there - Garcia circles away.
It looks like Garcia has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Garcia displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ash throws out the jab.
Ash fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Ash throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Garcia bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ash misses the body punch
and Garcia counters with a nice uppercut.
Ash changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Garcia tries to avoid it but Ash manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Garcia to the ground. Garcia escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ash wants to clinch up but Garcia keeps it at a distance.
Ash tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Garcia manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Ash's jab looks to have found its range, popping Garcia under the eye.

Ash is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Garcia's half guard.
Ash lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Ash throwing shots but Garcia is blocking nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ash seems to be working for a kimura but Garcia defends the submission attempt.
Garcia regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ash.
Ash throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Garcia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ash must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ash throws a big elbow that misses.
Garcia can't keep his opponent in guard - Ash advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Ash throwing shots but Garcia is blocking nicely.
Garcia wants to get back to his feet.

Garcia is defending against the submission attempts here by Ash.

Ash looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Garcia tries to kick Ash off but Ash keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Ash showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Garcia moves out of range as Ash strikes.
Johnny Garcia is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ash misses with a leg kick.
Ash shoots in looking for a takedown. Garcia tries to sprawl out of it but Ash keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Garcia manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ash tries to close the distance and clinch up but Garcia swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Garcia misses with an uppercut. Ash saw that one coming.
Garcia drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Garcia leaves Ash with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ash throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garcia's waist but Garcia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ash off to one side.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Adam Ash was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ash shoots in looking for a takedown but Garcia manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ash's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Ash fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Garcia looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ash moves into the clinch.

Ash is trying to break the clinch but Garcia has him pressed against the cage.
Garcia with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Ash's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Garcia lands an elbow just above Ash 's eye.

Ash pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A nice combination there by Ash.

Garcia throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ash throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garcia's waist but Garcia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ash off to one side.
Adam Ash is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Adam Ash comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ash has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
