Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alfonso Goveira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Stirling Sanguin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goveira fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Goveira ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sanguin moves away.
Goveira tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sanguin counters with a stiff right hand.
Goveira shoots in but no luck this time.
Goveira misses with a double jab.
Sanguin throws the kick towards the body but Goveira avoids it.
Sanguin throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sanguin lands a glancing blow to the side of Goveira's head.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Sanguin gets underhooks to prevent Goveira's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alfonso Goveira. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Goveira misses with a knee strike.
Sanguin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sanguin misses with a head kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sanguin has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Goveira fails with an attempt to clinch.
Goveira uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sanguin.
Sanguin connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Goveira momentarily.
Goveira blocks a head kick by Sanguin.
Goveira darts in looking for a takedown but Sanguin gets double underhooks and turns Goveira into the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanguin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sanguin connects with a combination that backs up Goveira into the cage. Sanguin lands a flurry of punches that gets past Goveira's guard. Goveira is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Sanguin bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stirling Sanguin!
After winning the bout, Stirling Sanguin thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
