PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bruce Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Adam Evans!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Armstrong.
Evans checks a low kick from Armstrong.

Evans gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Armstrong trying to control but Evans is working from the bottom.
Evans working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Armstrong.

Armstrong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Evans has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Armstrong has managed to get both his arms back between Evans's legs - danger averted.

Evans working for a triangle but Armstrong defends it easily.
Evans is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armstrong advances to half guard.

Armstrong is controlling the pace.
Armstrong thows a huge punch but Evans dodges it nicely.
Armstrong throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Armstrong is working for a submission of some sort.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Armstrong connects with a nice short shot to Evans's temple.
Armstrong is looking to advance position but Evans won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Evans keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Evans avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Armstrong.
Armstrong is controlling the pace.
Nice strikes from Armstrong there.
Armstrong missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Evans is looking to improve his position.
Evans tries to kick Armstrong off but Armstrong keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Armstrong really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Armstrong seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Evans for as long as he can get away with.
Armstrong scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Armstrong with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Armstrong seems to be working for a kimura but Evans defends the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Armstrong throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Armstrong closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Evans quickly recovers to half guard.
Evans is not content to let Armstrong control the position.
Evans is looking for a sweep. Armstrong is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Armstrong controlling the pace.
Armstrong takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Armstrong passes to full mount!
Armstrong lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans is bucking up trying to escape but Armstrong cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Armstrong lands a big elbow.


Evans is rocked!
Armstrong connects with a bit shot that sees Evans covering up! More strikes from Armstrong and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Armstrong is our winner by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Armstrong!
