PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Martin Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and KT Turnstile (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martin Stewart !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, KT Turnstile!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turnstile misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've been told by Stewart 's head coaches at LOD Gym Now with StandUP that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Turnstile gets caught flat footed, as Stewart shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Turnstile looking to control.
Turnstile really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stewart . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Turnstile pulls Stewart in close to his closed guard and prevents Stewart from doing any damage or advancing position.
Stewart trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Turnstile is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Stewart wants to control from the top but Turnstile keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Stewart drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stewart tries to stand but Turnstile is controlling from the bottom.

Stewart stands up and waves to Turnstile to follow him.
Stewart stalks Turnstile and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Turnstile's face. Turnstile staggers backwards, shaken.
Turnstile misses with a low kick.

Stewart closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Turnstile quickly recovers to half guard.
Turnstile tries to roll over but Stewart keeps him under control.

Stewart is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Turnstile trying to hold on to Stewart 's head to control him but Stewart postures up.

Stewart is working for a kimura but Turnstile is defending it quite comfortably.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turnstile gets back to full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Turnstile wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stewart looking to pass the guard.
Stewart is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Turnstile has his foot on Stewart 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stewart works his way back into a safe position though.

Stewart wants to pass the guard but Turnstile is keeping the position.
Turnstile tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Stewart is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Turnstile had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stewart defends it easily.
Turnstile is pulling down on Stewart 's head to control his posture.

Stewart drops back looking for a leg! Turnstile is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Turnstile manages to kick Stewart off! Stewart jumps back into Turnstile's guard.
Turnstile wants to sweep here but Stewart controlling him for the moment.

Turnstile trying to keep a closed guard but Stewart is proving a slippery customer.
Stewart is stalling in the full guard.

Stewart gets to his feet - Turnstile follows without any prompting.

Stewart feints and as Turnstile raises his hands in defense, Stewart changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Turnstile tries to land a sweep but no joy.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Turnstile keeping moving, preventing Stewart from controlling successfully.

Turnstile is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stewart darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Stewart seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Turnstile does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Stewart is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Turnstile defends it well.
Stewart is looking to take a break and control but Turnstile is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Turnstile is looking for a sweep. Stewart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Turnstile trying to hold on to Stewart 's head to control him but Stewart postures up.

Martin Stewart has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A nice leg kick lands there from Turnstile.

Stewart changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Turnstile looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stewart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Turnstile keeps working.

Stewart is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Turnstile is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Stewart wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Turnstile, who protects the arm well.
Turnstile tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Turnstile is still trying to improve position.
Stewart is looking to take a break and control but Turnstile is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Turnstile tries to bench press Stewart off him but Stewart keeps the position.

Turnstile sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Stewart is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Turnstile wants to control but Stewart is keeping busy.

Stewart is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Turnstile doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Stewart .

Stewart is working for a guillotine from mount but Turnstile frees his head quite easily.

Stewart tries to control but Turnstile wriggling away.
Turnstile tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Stewart get's back to his feet.

Stewart shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Turnstile is trying to defend but Stewart finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Turnstile slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Well Stewart has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Martin Stewart rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
