Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Davian Hawklight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benny Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawklight comes to the cage accompanied by War Pimp Renaissance. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawklight throws a half hearted mid kick.
Hawklight throws a low kick but Smith moves out of range easily.
Smith works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Hawklight closes the distance and clinches.
Hawklight tries a knee to the head but Smith blocks it.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Hawklight using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Smith has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
I was talking to Hawklight's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Hawklight throws a lazy right hand but Smith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Smith throws the left hand but Hawklight avoids the punch easily.

Hawklight lands with a nice combination. Smith backs away looking to recover.

Hawklight gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Smith to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hawklight controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hawklight is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hawklight bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hawklight tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Smith is able to avoid easily.
The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Smith walks forward, straight into a front kick from Hawklight.

Hawklight moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Smith is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hawklight.

That has opened up Benny Smith's cut even more.
Smith might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters circle, before Hawklight throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Smith's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Hawklight lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
