Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Mctanned (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Anthony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Mctanned!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephen Anthony!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anthony closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mctanned quickly recovers to half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Anthony slips a nice elbow through Mctanned's hands, connecting with Mctanned's forehead.

Anthony throwing shots but Mctanned is blocking nicely.

Anthony is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mctanned wants to improve his position but Anthony is controlling well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mctanned escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Anthony gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Anthony trying to control the position from guard on top but Mctanned is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mctanned is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Anthony defends well.

Mctanned had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Anthony defends it easily.
Mctanned wants to sweep here but Anthony controlling him for the moment.

Anthony got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mctanned has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Anthony has managed to get both his arms back between Mctanned's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mctanned wants to sweep but no luck.
Anthony throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mctanned is looking for a triangle but Anthony pushes his legs off easily.

Anthony tries to free his leg and advance position but Mctanned is retaining full guard.

Mctanned working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Anthony doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Anthony manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A close round but Stephen Anthony will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Anthony misses with a takedown attempt - Mctanned sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Mctanned shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Anthony napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mctanned cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Anthony is looking to improve his position but Mctanned isn't that keen on the idea.
Mctanned throwing strikes here but Anthony is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The referee warns Anthony that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Mctanned here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Mctanned lands a big shot there that rocks Anthony but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Anthony sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Mctanned passes to full mount!

Mctanned is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Anthony has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Anthony!

Mctanned shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mctanned was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Mctanned is stalling here. Anthony is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mctanned seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Anthony has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
