PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between CJ Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Von Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Richards comes to the cage accompanied by Three Six Mafia - It's a fight. Von Hammer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, CJ Richards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Von Hammer!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hammer missing with a left hand there. Richards was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've been hearing reports that Richards has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Hammer lands with a hook. Richards tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Richards uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hammer.
Hammer cracks a nice hook into Richards's ribs.

Hammer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Richards moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hammer's corner calls for a 1-2. Hammer obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Hammer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Richards manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hammer on his heels. He'll look to pass Hammer's guard now, I'm sure.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Richards is fighting to break Hammer's control of his arms but Hammer is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Hammer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Richards controls the pace.

CJ Richards has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hammer ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Von Hammer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hammer misses with a jab, cross combination.
Richards takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Richards decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Richards lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Hammer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Richards. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Richards is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hammer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Richards.

Hammer wants to improve his position but Richards is controlling well.
Richards looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hammer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Richards is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hammer is just riding it out for now. Richards eventually gives up the hold.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Hammer lands a nice looking body shot.
Richards takes a shot to the body in his stride.
We've been informed that Hammer has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Richards shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hammer sprawls well. Hammer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Richards gets slowly back to his feet.

Von Hammer seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Richards drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Richards pushes down on Hammer's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Richards is trying to control. Hammer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Richards seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hammer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Richards has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Hammer should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Richards has tightened it up now! Hammer should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

CJ Richards decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
