PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ray Fayth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bowser Stormcrow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fayth kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Awry Decade - Aisle of Denial. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ray Fayth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bowser Stormcrow!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stormcrow swings for the body but Fayth moves out of range.
Fayth checks a leg kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stormcrow. Fayth does a little dance to reset his feet.
Stormcrow missing with a left hand there. Fayth was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Fayth displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Stormcrow throws out the jab.
Stormcrow moves in looking to clinch but Fayth pushes him off.
Fayth slips a straight right by Stormcrow.
Stormcrow motions for Fayth to come forward. Stormcrow throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Fayth checks the leg kick.
Stormcrow scores with a punch to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stormcrow looks to land a right hand but Fayth moved out of range.
Fayth ducks under a wild hook from Stormcrow.
Stormcrow tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fayth manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Stormcrow is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Fayth.

Stormcrow clinches up against the cage.
Fayth has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stormcrow is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Stormcrow has a couple of punches blocked by Fayth.
Stormcrow swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Stormcrow lands with a right to the head.
Stormcrow struggles to land a body shot inside as Fayth controls his hands.
Stormcrow lands a body punch.
Fayth is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Stormcrow to keep the fight standing.
Stormcrow is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Fayth jumps guard but Stormcrow turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Fayth. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stormcrow works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Fayth is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Stormcrow to keep the fight standing.
I was talking to Fayth's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stormcrow pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Stormcrow fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Fayth looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Stormcrow misses with a low kick.
That kick from Stormcrow tenderised Fayth's leg. Fayth is trying to keep his angry face on.
Stormcrow's jab looks to have found its range, popping Fayth under the eye.
Stormcrow tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Fayth manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Stormcrow misses with an uppercut

and Fayth counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Stormcrow is looking to reverse the position.
Fayth is trying to ground and pound but Stormcrow uses the momentary lack of control by Fayth to regain half guard.
Fayth takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fayth wants to pass the guard but Stormcrow is defending well.

Fayth wants to work for an arm triangle but Stormcrow is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Fayth is trying to control the action in half guard but Stormcrow is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Stormcrow won't allow Fayth to pass to mount.
Stormcrow blocking the ground and pound attempt from Fayth.
Stormcrow is staying active underneath Fayth, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Stormcrow holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Fayth is thwarting Stormcrow's attempts to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stormcrow tries to get to full guard but Fayth has control of the leg.
Stormcrow is staying active underneath Fayth, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bowser Stormcrow dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

The crowd cheers as Stormcrow lands an impressive looking overhand right. Fayth doesn't seem phased though.

Stormcrow tries to work over Fayth's front leg with a kick but Fayth checks it.
Stormcrow connects with the punch.


It looks like Ray Fayth has been cut.
Stormcrow throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fayth takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Stormcrow tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Fayth is able to avoid easily.
Fayth gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Stormcrow throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Fayth stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Stormcrow.

Stormcrow moves into the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Stormcrow.
Fayth fails to pull guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fayth tries to pull guard but Stormcrow forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Fayth jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stormcrow walks away with a smile on his face. Fayth gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Fayth. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stormcrow tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Fayth is keen to just control but Stormcrow is a slippery customer.

Stormcrow looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fayth is one step ahead there.

Stormcrow pulls Fayth in close to his closed guard and prevents Fayth from doing any damage or advancing position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Bowser Stormcrow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Good leg kick by Stormcrow there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Stormcrow takes a swing at Fayth's ribcage but misses.
Fayth takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Fayth counters with a takedown into side control.
Stormcrow prevents Fayth from improving position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stormcrow parries the strikes from Fayth easily there. Fayth is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Stormcrow to escape.
Ray Fayth has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Stormcrow is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Fayth tries to advance to mount but Stormcrow denies him.
Fayth wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stormcrow keeps working.
Ray Fayth overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fayth is trying to ground and pound but Stormcrow uses the momentary lack of control by Fayth to regain half guard.

Fayth is trying to control. Stormcrow wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fayth is stalling here. Stormcrow is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Fayth seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Stormcrow has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stormcrow happy to just control the position for now.
Bowser Stormcrow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Fayth tries to buck Stormcrow off but Stormcrow is having none of it.
