The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thornton looks for a takedown but Kapena sprawls well.
Kapena has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gracie Barra Hilo (Three 2x Elite Coaches for $300 in the buildup to the fight.
A shot to the liver by Kapena. Beautiful body shot.
Nice uppercut lands for Kapena. That snapped Thornton's head back.
Kapena fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Thornton looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kapena lands a slapping body shot.
Thornton takes one to the side of the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Thornton has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Thornton there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kapena connects with a jab.
Thornton looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Kapena scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Thornton doesn't seem bothered though.

Thornton takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Kapena lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Thornton falls backwards - clearly groggy! Kapena dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
