PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robo Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory Rice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pope comes to the cage accompanied by Ghost - Monstrance Clock. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robo Pope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cory Rice!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope throws a lazy head kick
and Rice counters with a nice uppercut.

It looks like Robo Pope has been cut.
Pope tries a head kick but it misses.
Rice connects with a body shot that sends Pope's belly button to the back.
Pope definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Pope takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rice fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Rice lands a left and a right that sends Pope crashing to the canvas! Rice dives into mount looking to finish!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Rice wants to finish this one by submission but Pope is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rice.

Rice jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Pope is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Pope and Rice has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Rice is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pope has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pope prevents Rice from improving position.
Pope is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rice is trying to move to mount but Pope reverses beautifully and ends up in Rice's guard.
Pope won't allow Rice to sweep him here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rice is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pope defends well.

Rice looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rice working for submissions but it's allowed Pope to get to half guard.
Pope tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Rice looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Rice is looking to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cory Rice dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Robo Pope's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Rice lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Rice uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Robo Pope's cut is getting worse.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rice lands a hook that stumbles Pope back into the cage. Rice follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Pope to the canvas! Rice pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Pope has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
