PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Greg Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexis Savvidis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Greg Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexis Savvidis !
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savvidis tries to clinch up but Kerr circles away and keeps his distance.
A nice combination there by Kerr.
Savvidis throws a sloppy head kick and Kerr moves out of range easily.
Savvidis throws a lazy uppercut
and Kerr counters with a stiff right hand.
Savvidis lands with a shot to the body.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Savvidis .
Kerr is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Savvidis is looking to take a break and control but Kerr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Savvidis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Savvidis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kerr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Savvidis misses with the ground and pound.
Kerr knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Savvidis on the ground.
Savvidis throws an elbow but Kerr slips to the side and avoids it well.
Savvidis wants to control but Kerr is keeping him busy.
Savvidis lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Kerr tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Savvidis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Savvidis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Savvidis looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Savvidis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Savvidis working the ground and pound but Kerr is defending the strikes.
Kerr takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Savvidis working away.
Savvidis staying calm.
Savvidis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savvidis sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Kerr is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Savvidis wants to control but Kerr is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kerr tries to buck Savvidis off but Savvidis is having none of it.
Savvidis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Savvidis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Savvidis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kerr keeps working.
Savvidis controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Alexis Savvidis hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kerr circles away from the clinch attempt.
Savvidis throws a head kick that misses
and Kerr connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Savvidis looks winded!

Savvidis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kerr was covering up waiting for the punch and Savvidis finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Kerr has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Savvidis off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Savvidis throws a half hearted mid kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Savvidis throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Savvidis .
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexis Savvidis dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Savvidis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kerr throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Kerr defending against the ground and pound.

Savvidis has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kerr is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Savvidis yanks on the arm and Kerr is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Savvidis .

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Alexis Savvidis !
Alexis Savvidis took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
