Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Renan Melo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sebastian Scrooge!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melo doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Scrooge counter with a right hand.
Melo shoots and misses
and Scrooge cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Scrooge misses with a leg kick.
Melo clinches.
Scrooge fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Scrooge throws a head punch that misses.
Melo gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Scrooge has his foot on Melo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Melo works his way back into a safe position though.
Melo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Melo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scrooge is trying to control the position but Melo postures up.
Melo trying to control but Scrooge is working from the bottom.
Scrooge working for a triangle but Melo defends it easily.
Scrooge has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Scrooge looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Melo trying to control the position from guard on top but Scrooge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Melo advances position into side control!
Scrooge sneaks back into half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Scrooge tries to get to full guard but Melo has control of the leg.
Scrooge holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Melo wants to take a breather but Scrooge is having none of it.
Scrooge tries to roll over but Melo keeps him under control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Melo is trying to control the action in half guard but Scrooge is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Melo is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Scrooge is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Scrooge is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Melo has taken his back.
Melo tightening his grip on Scrooge, looking for the choke.
Scrooge rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Melo controlling the pace.
Melo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Scrooge won't allow Melo to pass to mount.
Scrooge trying to hold on to Melo's head to control him but Melo postures up.
Melo seems to be working for a kimura but Scrooge defends the submission attempt.
Melo has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Scrooge defend it? Melo steps over the head and cranks it - Scrooge is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Melo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Renan Melo!
