PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Junior Kilat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Fort Minor-Remember The Name kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Junior Kilat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jorge Garcia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kilat on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Diaz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Diaz doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kilat counters with a one-two to the body.
Kilat looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Kilat throws a nice outside leg kick.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Kilat shows good takedown defense.
Junior Kilat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Diaz.
Kilat throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kilat misses with a double jab.
Diaz fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Diaz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kilat tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Kilat avoids them all with ease.
Kilat tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kilat throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Diaz is defended easily by Kilat.
Diaz throws an overhand right that lands on Kilat's shoulder, as Kilat tries to avoid the shot.
Diaz will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Kilat throws a series of punches but Diaz avoids them all with ease.
Kilat lands with a kick to the temple. Diaz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Kilat throws a right hand that Diaz ducks under and follows up with a left that Diaz also avoids with ease.

Kilat clinches with his opponent.
Kilat lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kilat walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Diaz goes for a double leg but Kilat avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kilat continues to drive forward.
Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kilat avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Diaz blocks an elbow strike.
Diaz is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kilat to keep the fight standing.

Diaz pulls guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but Kilat is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kilat avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kilat is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Diaz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kilat content to stall in guard here.

Diaz working for submissions but it's allowed Kilat to get to half guard.

Diaz pushes Kilat off looking to stand but Kilat dives back in and keeps control.
Diaz wants to get back to full guard but Kilat has mounted him!
Diaz is looking to improve his position but Kilat isn't that keen on the idea.
Diaz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Kilat avoids the attempt from Diaz to control.
Diaz can't escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is squirming around, avoiding Kilat's attempts to control the action.
Kilat content just to control the position here.
Diaz is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Diaz gets back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kilat is working away from the top position though.
Diaz is pressing down on Kilat's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Junior Kilat will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kilat pinned against the cage. Kilat gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Diaz defending well as Kilat loads up on a big left hand.
Diaz looks for a takedown but Kilat sprawls well.

Diaz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Diaz fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Diaz is breathing heavily.

Diaz slips a jab and a cross from Kilat.
Kilat drops his hands momentarily and Diaz takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Diaz.
Kilat misses with the combination.
Diaz avoids the head kick by Kilat.
Kilat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kilat wants it to stay on the feet.

and Diaz counters with an inside leg kick.
Kilat is looking to clinch.
Diaz goes for a double leg but Kilat avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kilat continues to drive forward.

Diaz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kilat misses with the combination.
Junior Kilat is winning the standup battle so far.
Kilat throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Kilat has closed the distance and engaged Diaz in a clinch.
Diaz on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
With the fighters up against the cage, Kilat throws an elbow but misses.
Kilat tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Diaz avoids it.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Kilat.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kilat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kilat wants it to stay on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Diaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Kilat, which made it look bad.
Kilat defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.
Kilat moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Kilat throws a body kick that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kilat.

Kilat lands a high kick to the side of Diaz's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Kilat dives into guard, looking to finish.


Diaz is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kilat slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Diaz is still in real trouble! Can Kilat finish him?

Kilat stands and steps away. Diaz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Diaz wants to stay close but Kilat steps back to make room for something. Diaz seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Kilat and Diaz drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Junior Kilat!
Junior Kilat seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
