PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Robles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darrel Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jean Robles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darrel Kim!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Robles counters with a nice leg kick.
Robles shoots in and drives through. Kim sprawls well.
Robles could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kim misses with a double jab
and Robles counters with a low kick, right behind Kim 's knee.

and Robles counters with a three punch combo that has Kim backing up. Kim nods at Robles to acknowledge the strikes.
Robles fails with the takedown

and Kim counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Robles's guard now.
Robles throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Kim must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kim stops Robles from standing up.
Kim is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Robles is trying to control the position but Kim postures up.

Robles will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Robles has a closed guard, preventing Kim from standing up.
Kim slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Robles.
Robles tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kim tries to stand but can't do so whilst Robles controls his leg.
Robles has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Robles is trying to get back to full guard.
Kim is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Kim prevents Robles from standing back up.
Robles is breathing heavily.
Kim blocks the strikes from Robles.
Kim is controlling the pace.
Robles really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Darrel Kim has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch but Robles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Kim shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Robles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Robles tries to kick Kim off but Kim keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kim content to control rather than advance.
Kim wants to lay and pray for a moment but Robles keeps working.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Darrel Kim wasn't active enough on the ground.
Robles shoots in looking for a takedown. Kim tries to sprawl out of it but Robles keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jean Robles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Robles defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kim.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim misses with a takedown attempt - Robles sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Robles is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kim has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Robles is not content to let Kim control the position.

Robles throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kim throws a lazy uppercut
and Robles counters with a head kick. That will keep Kim thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Kim counters with a single leg into guard. Robles didn't expect that.
Kim passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Kim moves into full mount!

Kim is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Robles has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Kim gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kim rushes Robles and presses him up against the cage.

Robles tries to pull guard but Kim won't allow it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Darrel Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Kim throws out a loose jab but Robles uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kim shoots in and bounces Robles off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Robles is trying to buck Kim off.

Kim is working to tighten his grip on Robles's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Robles has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Kim is really squeezing tight and eventually Robles passes out! Kim breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
