PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight kickboxing rules bout between John Hoop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Haka Maka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maka has chosen Island Music as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Hoop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Haka Maka!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoop looks to score with a jab to the body but Maka is just out of range.
Hoop lands a nice shot to the body.
Maka doesn't manage to clinch there - Hoop circles away.
Hoop throws a body punch but Maka moves out of range.
Hoop throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Maka on the side of the head.
Maka bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hoop checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Maka throws a head kick that misses.
Maka moves out of range of the body kick from Hoop.
Hoop swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hoop moves away from the strike by Maka.
A lazy left from Hoop finds it's target.
Maka tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hoop swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hoop definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
A jab from Hoop misses.
Hoop misses with an uppercut. Maka saw that one coming.
Hoop tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Maka is able to avoid easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hoop ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Maka moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoop misses with a straight right.
Hoop swings widly with a right hand
and Maka counters with a stiff right hand.
Maka throws a nice looking combination but Hoop bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hoop misses with a lunging right hand

and Maka counters by moving into the clinch.
Hoop throws a head punch that misses.
Hoop is trying to stall.
Maka blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Maka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A combination from Maka does no damage.
Hoop throws a right hand that misses
and Maka counters with a series of strikes. Hoop will be more careful next time no doubt.
Hoop fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Maka has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Hoop throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hoop blocks a low kick nicely.
John Hoop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hoop takes a swing at Maka's ribcage but misses.
The fighters circle momentarily. Hoop darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maka fails with an attempt to clinch.
Maka is looking to clinch.
Hoop throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Maka counters with an outside leg kick.
Hoop scores with a sloppy right hand. Maka should have avoided that one.
Hoop throws a head kick that misses.
Maka takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Maka is looking to clinch.
Hoop throws a head kick but Maka moves out of range.
Good shot there by Hoop.


Maka is rocked!
Hoop cracks Maka with a perfect right hand that drops him to the mat! Maka is sitting up but I can't see if he's OK from my position. The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Maka is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9,10! He's out! Maka could not beat the count!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). John Hoop!
John Hoop decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
