Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Modesto Carpenter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ksandr Kolchugin!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kolchugin has managed to clinch.
Carpenter tries to break the clinch but Kolchugin is controlling the position.

Kolchugin breaks the clinch.
Carpenter tries to clinch up but Kolchugin circles away and keeps his distance.
Kolchugin doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carpenter counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Kolchugin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Carpenter counters with a left to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Carpenter. Kolchugin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Carpenter digs a good body shot into Kolchugin's ribs.
Kolchugin throws a leg kick that is checked

and Carpenter moves into the clinch.

Carpenter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kolchugin scores with a jab to the jaw.


It looks like Modesto Carpenter has been cut.
Carpenter shoots for a double leg takedown but Kolchugin sprawls well. He's pushed Carpenter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Kolchugin moves into range and clinches up with Carpenter.
Carpenter dodges an elbow strike from Kolchugin.
Kolchugin is trying to pull guard but Carpenter turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Kolchugin has Carpenter pressed against the cage, preventing Carpenter from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Kolchugin keeps control of Carpenter as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kolchugin jumps guard but Carpenter stands there with Kolchugin around his waist. Kolchugin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kolchugin has Carpenter pressed against the cage, preventing Carpenter from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Carpenter manages to break the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Carpenter jumps guard and drags Kolchugin to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kolchugin closes the distance and clinches up with Carpenter, looking for a takedown. Kolchugin pushes Carpenter against the cage but Carpenter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kolchugin delivers a nice body kick.
Kolchugin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Carpenter.

and Carpenter counters with a series of strikes. Kolchugin will be more careful next time no doubt.
Kolchugin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carpenter but Carpenter pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Kolchugin tries for a takedown but Carpenter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Kolchugin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carpenter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kolchugin somewhat.

The fighters circle momentarily. Carpenter darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Carpenter stuffs the takedown.

Carpenter manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kolchugin on his heels. He'll look to pass Kolchugin's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carpenter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kolchugin, up you get!

Kolchugin has taken the fight to the clinch.

Carpenter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carpenter tries to clinch there but Kolchugin circles away.

Kolchugin clinches up with Carpenter and pushes him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ksandr Kolchugin will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Modesto Carpenter's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Carpenter fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kolchugin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Kolchugin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Carpenter just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kolchugin is trying to force a seperation but Carpenter has the dominant position.
Come on Kolchugin - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Kolchugin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Carpenter looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
