The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giorgio misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Penn throws a head kick that half lands.
Penn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Giorgio circles away.

Giorgio closes the distance and clinches.
Giorgio has Penn pressed against the cage, preventing Penn from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Penn gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Giorgio.
Penn is trying to break the clinch but Giorgio has him pressed against the cage.
Penn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Giorgio smiles and moves away.
Penn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Giorgio swivels and escapes.

Penn shoots in for a double leg but Giorgio sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Penn is trying to pull guard but Giorgio turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Giorgio will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Penn up against the cage.

Giorgio jumps guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Giorgio is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Penn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Giorgio on the ground.

Giorgio wants to work for an arm triangle but Penn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
