PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steven Spears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul McCoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul McCoy!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCoy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

McCoy tightens his grip and picks Spears up, before dumping him to the ground. Spears manages to land in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
McCoy is looking to work some ground and pound but Spears has wrist control.
Spears really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
McCoy won't allow Spears to sweep him here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCoy prevents Spears from getting the reversal.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Paul McCoy was stalling too much, according to the referee.
McCoy lands a really nice looking cross but Spears seems unphased.

Spears is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McCoy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McCoy lands a couple of good shots and Spears has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

McCoy shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Spears is trying to defend but McCoy finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Spears bucks McCoy off and manages to get back to his feet!
Paul McCoy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McCoy closes the distance looking for a takedown. Spears stuffs it but McCoy still has hold of him. McCoy picks Spears up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. McCoy slams Spears to the floor and that's really hurt Spears - he doesn't know where he is! McCoy throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
